Whether you’re looking for a dark sounding male name that’s for a fictional character you’re writing a piece about, a video game character, or whether you’re looking to name a person or even pet in real life with a dark, mysterious name, I’m hoping I’ve got enough recommendations on this list in the right vein that you’ll find the name you’re after, or at least get you started in the right direction.
While names like “Damien,” “Lucian,” “Vladimir,” and “Mordecai” are great popular recommendations for dark male names, there are plenty of others. Do let me know if you find the perfect name in the comments section down below!
In case you like the idea of naming your dark and broody male after someone in pop culture, I have a list of a number of recommendations, for example: “Severus,” “Drogo,” “Geralt,” and “Riddick” to name a few. There are so many others that should have made it to the list so if you can think of really good ones, please drop a comment down below with your recommendations.
“Odin,” “Fenrir ,” “Marduk,” and “Perun” are all examples of names that come from mythologies – and I have a load more of these, not just in Greek mythology, but a few others as well, in case you like the idea of having a namesake for your dark male that has a cool backstory.
“Zane,” “Jett,” “Axel,” and “Kane” are all examples of short and sweet names that work really well as dark male names. I have a list of dark male names that are long and more poetic sounding as well, like “Leopold,” “Sebastian,” “Constantine,” and “Maximilian.”
Gothic names make great dark male names, so I have a short list including some of these as well. “Corvin,” “Roderick,” “Silas,” and “Theron” are some of my favourites in that camp.
Names like “Ambrose,” “Aurelian,” “Oberon,” and “Valerian” sound very cool and otherworldly to me. These are great names to choose from. So are names like “Wolfram,” “Leonidas,” “Griffin,” and “Drake” that are animal themed.
“Thorne,” “Rowan,” “Briar,” and “Vale” are not animal themed, but they are nature themed, and I have a list of more of these as well if you like the idea of giving your dark male a nature themed name that isn’t animal themed.
“Orpheus,” “Kieran,” “Dougal,” and “Nigel,” amongst others, are all male names that are associated with darkness and night. These are some of my favourites if you like the idea of a cool meaning tied into the name you’re choosing.
“Alaric,” “Evander,” “Gideon,” and “Cassius” all have meanings associated with power and strength, so if you want a different meaning, but like the idea of using a name that has a strong, powerful meaning behind it, this is definitely a direction to look.
“Soren,” “Ignatius,” “Hadrian,” and “Isidore” all have meanings associated with intelligence and wisdom. So if the dark male you’re naming is also very intelligent, and you want that reflected in the meaning of his name, there are a number of solid names here.
And if your dark male is more power-hungry in the wealthy or even greedy way, names like “Edmund,” “Frederick,” “Alaric,” and “Cyrus,” as well as many others in this category are solid bets for dark male names.
