Whether you’re in the market for a unique name for a female horse in your life, or you’re hunting for a unique name for a fictional horse – say for a creative piece you’re working on writing, I’m hoping the following list will be able to help you.
I won’t deny that, when it comes to finding a unique name in particular, there’s a lot about the individual that goes into finding the perfect name. That being said, I’m hoping that even if I can’t help you find the name, I can at least give you an idea of what direction to head for inspiration, or to continue down the line of inspiration that’ll get you to that perfect name.

I feel like popular names for female horses have got to be names like Bella, Daisy, Luna, Lady, Rose, Rosie, Misty, Angel, Star, Princess, Ginger, Sugar, WIllow, Coco & Pearl. They’re beautiful, but common, names for girls and are typically quite short and sweet, but not by any stretch of the imagination something powerful or poetic or, well, glamourous and luxurious feeling.
I do believe that when it comes to more unique names for horses, you’ll have a lot more luck opting for longer female names, which is why a lot of this list is composed of longer names.
Double-barrel names add a nice twist, and make a name unique, even when it’s composed of more common names, like Ella-May. That is certainly an easy route to go about if you really want a unique and meaningful name, but like the shorter, sweeter sounding names as well.
There’s also the option of opting for a name that has a particular meaning. I’ve listed a few different lists of names that have meanings that remind me of what horses represent to me, like “soulful” or “lively” or “grace.”
I also love the idea of naming a female horse after royalty or names associated with queens, princesses, and regality in general. It appeals to me at least in part because of how royal horses are in their demeanour.
That being said, you’re here for the ideas, so let’s get into some now.
