There are a load of male deer names that are popular recommendations, like “Buck,” “Rusty,” “Storm,” and “Cedar” for good reason. They’re cool sounding, often times nature-themed, very strong and powerful sounding, and are just all around great names, for pretty much any male, including male deer.
Insofar as the recommendations in this article go, I’ve done my best to start with these popular recommendations, giving a number to choose from, and branch out to more unique options in case you’d prefer something that’s not as frequently used to name your male deer.

After the short list of popular recommendations for male deer names, I’ve included a short list of fictional male deer, from pop culture, fictional works like movies and novels, and the like, just in case references are totally up your alley insofar as namesakes for your male deer. These include names like “Bambi,” “Cernunnos,” “Dasher,” and “Silverhoof” – and while some of these are Christmas themed reindeer, I did try to give a good mix for you to choose from.
There are a slew of great names that come from mythological character names that work exceptionally well, especially if you’re a fan of mythologies and like the backstories behind some of the characters, and want to give your male deer a name that has this kind of depth of meaning. “Sköll,” “Odin,” “Marduk,” “Sobek,” and “Beowulf” I think make for great mythological character themed names for male deer, and they sound super powerful and strong, which I always love in a male name.
If you like the idea of giving your male deer a funny name instead of a serious one, or like the idea of giving a nickname that’s funny alongside a serious name, I’ve got a shortlist including a number of these. Names like “Buckaroo,” “Antlerton,” “Stagbert,” and “Prancey” make for great nicknames – and ones that work perfectly as nicknames for male deer with the same first letter as their “proper” name.
More along these types of nicknames – “Nibble,” “Chomp,” “Rustle,” and “Trot” are excellent from-the-dictionary single-word first names or even nicknames for your male deer, and they’re short, sweet, and to the point!
If you prefer names on the cooler side, “Blaze” “Hunter,” “Ranger,” and “Summit” are some of my favourites, and work super well in my opinion.
“Ash,” “Pip,” “Kai,” “Jax,” and “Cole” are some of my faves if you’re looking for super short names, and “Aurelian,” “Cassian,” “Dorian,” “Sylvanus,” and “Constantine” are some that are the polar opposite direction – long, interesting, deep and poetic types of names that work for male deer.
In case you prefer otherworldly and even mystical sounding names, “Aether,” “Orion,” “Zephyr,” and “Lucian” as well as many others do the trick quite nicely, and if you’re looking for more natural sounding names, I’ve got a list of these as well – from “Briar,” and “Basil,” to “Hawthorn,” and “Sorrel” – super stunning in my opinion.
Gem themed names also work, like “Quartz,” “Copper,” “Pyrite,” and “Malachite.” I also found quite a number of other nature themed names like “Reef,” “Cove,” “Glenwood,” and “Marsh,” that would be quite nice as well.
Let me know your favourites in the comments down below! Super curious to see which you like best.
