There are a number of dark, evil and intelligent sounding names that work well as female sorcerer names, both long and short, and many of these have incredible meanings or associations, like in mythology, that add an extra layer of perfection in case that’s what you’re after.
Regardless of the type of name you’re trying to find for your female sorcerer – or sorceress if you’d prefer – I’m hoping I can give you a number of ideas with regards to routes to take to uncover the perfect name, even if the exact name you’re after doesn’t happen to be included in this list.

I’d love to know what type of female sorcerer you’re trying to name if you’d be willing to share, by the way. If it’s a name for a fictional character in an artistic piece you’re trying to write – like in a book or fanfic.
I’m guessing many will also stumble across this post looking to name video game characters, and if this is you, please let me know which game you’re playing and what name you decided on if you’ve got a moment to spare.
Since there are so many routes you can go, I’ve divided this article into sections so you can quickly search through to find your favourite options. If you prefer to name your female sorceress after famous sorcerers, there is a list that includes a number of these for you to browse through.
If you like the idea of naming your female sorcerer after a personality that already exists, but don’t mind expanding your search to other female mythological characters that aren’t necessarily sorcerers, I’ve also included a list of options that would be a good fit. Some of my favourites that aren’t such common or obvious names include “Dione” & “Ishtar” – dark and intelligent sounding, but definitely not typical to see, in my opinion.
There are a plethora of gorgeous Gothic female first names, and these make for excellent sorceress names – from “Salem” and “Belladonna” to “Desdemona” and “Zephyra,” these are some of my favourite options.
In case you prefer shorter names, I have a number of ideas all in one place. Names like “Nox,” “Vex,” and “Kali” work very well, and of course if you want a double-barrel name or want a middle name for your female sorceress, these would be lovely to use in combination.
That being said, I do find myself somewhat more attracted to the longer names for female sorcerers. There’s something to be said about long, beautiful, dark sounding names that just pull you in, so do check this list if you’re more like me in this regard. “Calantha,” “Lysandra,” “Desdemona” & “Solenne” just sound so stunning, and I feel there is depth to these names that is almost suggestive of incredible power.
If you like the idea of using names with specific meanings, I’ve included separate lists for names that have meanings related to “night” (like “Leila” & “Erela”) and those with meanings assocated with the moon (like “Aylin” and “Tsukiko”).
And if your female sorcerer has an elemental edge, I’ve also added lists of names fire, earth, water, and wind themed names that would work – depending on which element your female sorcerer happens to be.
Without further ado, let’s get into the recomendations!
