If you’re looking for a female mermaid name, you’ll come across a number of incredibly lovely popular names, like “Nerissa,” “Pearl,” “Coral,” and “Sirena” that fit perfectly for any female mermaid.
That’s because many of the commonly recommended options are both on point in terms of vibe, and are incredibly beautiful sounding and fitting to begin with.
It’s not hard to find these types of common popular names for female mermaids, but I’ve done my best to include as many alternatives as I could in the following article so you could find what you’re after – even if it happens to be a less common name that could work well as a female mermaid name.
There are a number of female mermaids in pop culture, from fictional works like movies, books, and the like. The most popular is of course Ariel, from The Little Mermaid, but that’s only where the list begins. I’ve made a list of these for you to browse through.
I’ve also included a list of popular recommendations, like “Nami,” “Calypso,” and “Shelly” – as these may be quite frequently recommend, but for a good reason as they are super stunning and incredibly fitting.
“Morgana” is personally one of my favourites, and it’s one that sounds dark and twisty like a lot of the recommendations in the next list – probably my favourite – names that work well for female mermaids but that are based on mythological figures and characters.
“Lorelei,” “Nerissa,” “Thalassa,” and “Dione” – these are stunning names that I think are super mysterious, dark, and lovely sounding. They have depth to them that most female mermaids – whether she’s one you’re working on for a fictional piece you’re writing or a character in a video game, heck even a stuffed “animal” / doll you’re trying to name – would perfectly fit.
In case you like very short, sweet, and pretty sounding names, ones that are cute but also gorgeous – I’ve included a list of these. Names like “Lumi,” “Nae,” “Vee,” and “Sol”I think are super stunning as mermaid names.
In case you want to throw brevity out the window and really want to go into the dark, deep sounding names, I have a list of these that will hopefully send you in the right direction if you don’t find exactly what you’re after in this list. Names like “Coralyndra” and “Oceandrelle” may not be traditional names, but they certainly are unique and beautiful, and nicknames like “Coral” and “Ocean” work quite well and are easy to find for these longer names.
There are a number of really great water themed names that work perfectly for female mermaids, like “Hydravia” and “Rivarae.” These are beautiful and I like the idea of matching meanings with names.
I’ve also included a list of names that mean or have meanings to do with water, like “Kai” and “Tethys” – as well as names that mean or have meanings to do with the colour blue, like “Azura” and “Cyanne.” These are exceptionally good female mermaid names, in my opinion.
Finally, for female mermaids that are sirens, I have a list of gorgeous music themed names that work wonderfully as mermaid names, like “Melody,” “Allegra,” and “Viola.” I love these so much.
